Bottle-like seasoning containers with narrower openings may use different forming sequences depending on their structure and equipment configuration.

Simple does not mean careless, though. Neck roundness, mouth dimensions, wall distribution, and base flatness still need to remain consistent because the jar must later accept a cap and stand securely during filling and packing.
Square and Hexagonal Jars Ask More From the Mold
Square and hexagonal glass seasoning jars create a very different visual effect. They line up neatly on shelves and give spices a stronger packaged appearance, but corners change how molten glass fills the final cavity.
We pay particular attention to glass movement into corners and the transition between flat panels. If the glass begins stiffening too early, corner definition may become weak. If wall distribution is uneven, one panel may appear optically heavier than another. This is where mold condition and forming temperature become especially visible. A round container can sometimes hide minor variation better; a row of square jars is considerably less forgiving.
Wide-Mouth Jars Have Their Own Advantage
Short, wide-mouth seasoning jars are useful for products that need spoon access or contain larger ingredients such as coarse salt, dried blends, or whole spices. The large opening changes the relationship between the neck and body. Instead of a pronounced shoulder, the upper section may transition directly into the jar wall.
In automatic glass jar forming, this geometry can suit press-and-blow production well because the internal shape can be established before the final mold defines the exterior. The challenge shifts toward mouth accuracy, rim condition, body symmetry, and consistent weight.
Tall Spice Bottles Behave More Like Bottles
Not every seasoning container looks like a jar. Tall pepper bottles, slim herb containers, and shaker-style vessels may have narrower necks and longer bodies. Their geometry demands greater attention to shoulder formation and vertical glass distribution.
In our production view, this is where glass spice jar production begins to overlap with conventional bottle forming. The container still serves seasoning products, but its forming behavior is increasingly influenced by bottle-like proportions. That distinction matters more to the production line than the product name printed on the carton.
Annealing Is Where All Those Shapes Meet Again
Once forming is complete, the hot containers leave the machine and move onto the conveyor toward the annealing lehr. Regardless of whether the product is round, square, hexagonal, short, or tall, controlled cooling is necessary to reduce residual stress created during forming.
Heavier bases and thicker corners can retain heat differently from thinner walls. Proper annealing allows these temperature differences to decrease gradually. After cooling, glass seasoning jars can be inspected for mouth condition, dimensions, cracks, surface defects, mold marks, base stability, and other visible production issues before packing.
This is one of the reasons automated production works well for standard seasoning containers: once the process window is stable, the same mold set can produce large quantities with consistent dimensions and appearance.
